Well I knew this day would come and, over the past few days, it couldn’t come fast enough. My ducks aren’t babies anymore! We spent most of yesterday prepping the barn for its new inhabitants. We went to the feed store and stocked up on bedding, food and some hardware to get the barn touched up.
Our big white barn is a bit on the creepy side. We haven’t gotten the electricity to turn on down there yet so it is rather dark inside some of the middle stalls. The barn was built on a concrete slab which is a bonus to me, however there are quite a few places where our resident groundhog(s) has dug holes around the perimeter. All in all, the barn needs a LOT of work, but for now, it will be a great place for the ducks.
My main concern with the feathered babies being outside is predators. Coyotes, raccoons, hawks~these are just a few of the creatures that would love to gobble up a duck feast. For now, we have taken one of our large dog crates and placed it inside of the stall so they will have the added protection of the crate at night.
So far, looks like they are enjoying their new digs.
