Rough Week For the Ducks – The Paulk Pack

Rough Week For the Ducks

It’s been a rough week for the adult ducks. Our female mallard decided to leave the barn and fly away. We suspected this would happen as mallards are wild and most tend to do this.

We didn’t, however, expect what happened yesterday afternoon. On the way to my parent’s house, I saw a hawk attacking our ducks. I ran as fast as I could, but the hawk had already killed two of my male runner ducks. I chased the hawk away and rescued Gary, the lone runner duck who was next on the hawk’s list. Poor Gary was so stressed and scared. Ace, the other male mallard, was pretty safe because he can fly and flew to the other side of the fence. Gary was caught in the corner and the hawk was taunting him before I got there.

I cried a few tears and got Gary and Ace locked up safely in the barn. I checked back on them later to make sure poor Gary was able to calm back down. They seemed to get over the terrifying ordeal by that night but I’m sure they are still a bit shaken up. I’m not sure what the next chapter will bring for them, but I do know that I will do everything in my power to keep them safe.
