The Week Of EVERYTHING – The Paulk Pack

The Week Of EVERYTHING

Well, this week has pretty much sucked. Yep, I said it. Late Tuesday night, Charles came home from a work dinner and just before coming in the driveway, I let the dogs out so they wouldn’t bark and wake up the kiddos. While I was in the laundry room folding laundry, I heard a loud yelp and ran out side to see Finnegan walking towards me very slowly. He had run in front of Charles’ truck in the dark and must have been dragged several feet.

I put him in my car and headed to GVS and got there shortly after 11:30 PM. The vet tech took him immediately in the back while I waited….and waited. I met with the doctor around 1:00 AM and she let me know that he had lost a good bit of skin. He was really sore but they wanted to keep him to try and work on bandaging him up and also to run x-rays to make sure he had no breaks. She called Wednesday morning after he had spent the night and let me know that he had no evidence of anything wrong orthopedically, but a lot of soft tissue damage. Because a lot of skin was gone on his inner leg and belly, there was no easy way to bandage it so they actually stitched a bandage into his skin to hold it on. That afternoon I went down to take him some food and visit. He was pretty drugged up but still wagged his tail to see me. I got to love on him for a few minutes before heading back home.

On my way home, Kristin (who was watching both kiddos) called me to say that Owen had thrown up everywhere. I had noticed he didn’t seem to be feeling that great that morning, so I called the doctor and got a late afternoon appointment and headed home to get him and Charlotte. At the doctor, Owen was being extra clingy while Charlotte was being extra fussy. It was such a pleasant experience…and when the doctor tried to look in Owen’s mouth, he puked everywhere. Everywhereeeeeee. While sitting in my lap. All over his clothes, all over my clothes, all over the floor. There was even a puddle in my shoe. It was disgusting. So, that was fun to clean up while having to crying kids needing 150% of my attention each. This Momma needed her some more coffee.

Owen threw up a few more times that night and then again about 5 AM on Thursday, which ended up as an early morning bath play session. I must admit that I kind of enjoyed having a snuggly toddler for half of a minute this week…he’s usually to “on the go” to sit with me and snuggle. Thursday morning he even fell asleep in the bed with me for a couple hours and Charlotte was so kind to let us sleep another two hours. Anyways, that was the last puke episode, luckily. I think we did pretty good surviving that.

On another note, the weekend is looking great! I’m chopping my hair off and Finn comes home!
